In the recent blog post, the search giant has revealed that Google One, the cloud storage service that Google launched in 2018, will now back up Android or iOS phones for free using the Google account. This mobile application will allow users of both platforms to secure their phones even if they are not Google One subscribers. To get the benefits, one must download a free app and sign in with a Google account.

Earlier, Google One subscription was tossed as a premium, customer-friendly “upgrade” to the technology hulk’s paid Google Drive storage plans. The Google One storage application offers subscribers more cloud storage (up to a whopping 30 TB) along with other offers such as multi-user family plans, exclusive discounts, and premium support.

For paying Android users, in September 2019, Google offered an extra advantage to the service, that is, automatic phone backup. Recently, the search giant declared that this feature will be offered free of cost and will also be expanded for iPad and iPhone owners.

Backups include emails, files, contacts, text messages, videos, and photos and which will help to manage all in one place. However, there is one drawback, that is, free storage is limited to 15 GB, and any storage needs over and above that will have to pay extra. The paid plan starts at USD 1.99 or EUR 1.99 or AUD 4.39 per month for 100 GB of storage.

Apple also offers a built-in backup function for iPad and iPhones via its iCloud storage service, which contains 5 GB free data space.

Along with the new application, Google has introduced a storage manager feature to the service. Users can access the storage management feature via web or mobile app. Also, it enables users to manage folders saved from Photos, Drive, and Gmail in one place. According to Google, the new feature will make it simpler for users to see which documents are holding up more space. Also, it will help users to remove/add files without leaving the app.

Google One makes it easier for users by managing the stored files with the availability of free storage space. Moreover, paid plan information will also be available on the storage manager.

There are benefits of being a paid subscriber; for instance, a single tariff can be shared with up to five other users via the family sharing option. Few markets in Australia offer bonus credits that the subscriber can redeem on apps in the Play Store, enjoy the benefits of special prices on hotel bookings made via Google search, and get discounts while shopping online on the Google Store.

Google One app is already available for Android users and can be downloaded from Play Store. Thus, Google has declared that Apple users can take the benefits of Google One storage app in the coming period.
